In common with all event organisers we are monitoring current UK government advice relating to Coronavirus closely. At the present time all our 2020 competitions, including Roll Call are going ahead as planned, but of course we have to be guided by official advice, by the policies of the venues where our events are hosted, and (for Challenge and the LGT) the plans of the main organisers of events within which some of our competitions take place.
- Roll Call is the first BHGS event this year, and as of today there is no UK Government advice suggesting that gatherings such as Roll Call (which draws a total of just 160 competitors) should or will be impacted by Coronavirus.
- This week we have also spoken to the Roll Call venue (Holywell School), who have confirmed to us that they foresee no issues with our booking with them - and in fact they already had a routine major clean planned for the week after we are there anyway - so unless official Government advice changes there is no reason to expect any impact on Roll Call this year.
- As an added precaution and to provide further reassurance for players we will be working with the school to implement a number of measures during Roll Call, including increased cleaning across all high-volume touchpoints (e.g. handrails, WCs, entrances/exits), making available hand-sanitising and disinfection materials at the venue and putting up signage onsite reminding competitors of current hygiene recommendations.
- Should this situation change and it became necessary to cancel Roll Call the BHGS' finances are sufficiently robust that we are able to offer a full refund of all entry fees to all attendees. We would however be unable to refund travel and accommodation costs.
The UK Government and NHS have published advice and FAQ's relating to individuals who may be in higher risk groups for Coronavirus, either as a result of having recently travelled to a number of at-risk areas, or where underlying health and age-related factors may increase the severity of any potential infection.
If you are concerned that you, or your close friends, family or work colleagues may fall under any of these groups or be subject to these guidelines, and as a result you would prefer not to now take part in Roll Call please contact us and we will process a full refund of your entry fee. If you have booked local accommodation, please also let us know as we may be able to find other competitors prepared to take over your booking.
Following Roll Call, our next event is The BHGS Challenge which this year takes place as part of UK Games Expo, and so we will be following the guidance and actions provided by the UKGE organiser and NEC venue. The UKGE position on Coronavirus is available on their website.
Our other events in 2020, the BHGS Teams event in June at the LGT and Britcon in August are both currently more than 3 months away, so if there are any updates about those events we will of course keep you informed as they get closer.
We continue to look forward to welcoming players who wish to participate at our competitions this year, and who are not personally impacted by travel restrictions or other factors. We will also continue to monitor UK Government advice and best practice from across the entire events sector, and should the current status change (for any of our events) we will update you as soon as possible.
If you have any questions regarding our events please do not hesitate to contact us via our website
