The BHGS Doubles

Format

The Doubles ran as a team event from the days of 7th Edition and has continued, either as a multi-venue annual league or a one-off event ever since.

The Ancients period has also contested the Society of Ancients Shield trophy, with the highest scoring team in either DBMM or FoGAM winning this prize since 2010.

1997-2008

Surfacing after a similar 7th edition series of events (which we don't have results for) at its peak the DBM Doubles were seeing almost 100 teams taking part in a hotly contested series of events, over sometimes as many as 6 rounds throughout the year.

2008-2010

The arrival of FoGAM replaced DBM in the BHGS Doubles Series, and a number of new venues were used, including Luncarty in Scotland.

2010-today

The Doubles became a 1-weekend event from 2010, held annually in Oxford. Ancients has been played as FoGAM, with FoW added as a Pairs event from  2010 and FoGR and DBMM also being played from 2011 onwards.

With as many as 6 events in each year, all with 2 players each receiving 1st-3rd place trophies as well as overall yearly winners, The Doubles have also featured many great (and many not so great) photographs of of OTT leisure- and knit-wear, mantlepiece-busting trophies and cheesy grins.

Here are a few examples we have been able to unearth from the BHGS photo archive.
