2024 Themes:

15mm Competition Rules : 200 point armies with standard sized 200 point tables of 120cm x 80cm. Players must bring their own terrain pieces

25mm Competition - as above, but with a standard 6'x4' table

The themes are identical this year, and are as follows:

"The Dawn of the Ancient Age" :

The accession of Artaxerxes II to the Persian throne in 404 BCE was an auspicious occasion in that it marked what many subsequent Persian dynasties regarded as the start of their own history, and therefore much of the history of the entire Middle East in Ancient times as well.

In this same year of 404 BCE the Peloponnesian War finally came to a bloody end, and as the exhausted combatants reflected on the lessons learnt from that brutal conflict, the heroic traditions of Homeric combat in Classical Europe were consigned to history in favour of a newer, more relentless form of warfare.

Across the globe in China, the same year marked another great military watershed, this time between the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, as the State of Jin was divided between between rival families to create the three states of Zhao, Wei and the epoc-defining Han.

Over in the Americas however it was the Year of the Popping Frog (gotta be careful how you spell that one), and people were still dressing up as pumas, leopards and birds and stabbing one another with all sorts of obsidian nastinesses on a regular basis.

Yes, the timeline of military evolution did run kinda weird over there, but because it was all still sharpened sticks and very little armour we are going to shoehorn them all (apart from the bits with Conquistadors) into this period anyway and to hell with it, on the basis that anyone bold enough to paint up a crazy army should be encouraged to give them at least one annual tournament outing.

The theme therefore is:
  • All armies (and allies) must be valid in or before 404 BCE, or be drawn from the America section. Any Conquistador-like options are not permitted:

25mm ADLG will be the same, as it's a broad enough period anyway
