BHGS X-Wing Appeal We're currently looking for a willing volunteer to be player/umpire at the X-Wing Tournament at Britcon this year, after our previous Jedi Master ended up being caught out by unforeseen family commitments. The difficult stuff is already all done as we've already got a format and plan for the event, and some great sponsorship and prizes from the lovely folks at Grim Tree Games too, so if you fancy helping us out with a spot of umpiring (or know someone who might be interested) please get in touch - we can offer free entry, and probably some free beer vouchers too to whoever can step in and help us "Feel the Force" in Manchester this August! Congratulations to Graham Evans and the other three players who this month have toppled Dave Ruddock from his seemingly cemented-on position at the top of the UK leader board for FoG:AM. The FoG:AM year runs until Britcon 2014, so there are a few more meaty ranking tournaments (especially Roll Call) to go before the annual trophy is handed out once again - and with 25mm and 15mm on offer at Roll Call, there are still plenty of points to play for as well. We are pleased to announce details of a special offers for all players at Britcon 2014, thanks to our first "Period Sponsor" for X-Wing at Britcon 2014 - Grim Tree Games Grim Tree Games is a UK based hobby games retailer selling all things X-Wing as well as a huge range of other board games, card games and roleplaying games. Grim Tree Games will exhibiting at the Britcon Trade Show where they will be providing prizes for the X-Wing Tournament, and will also be offering a 5% discount on the complete X-Wing range to all Britcon competitors - so if you have been tempted by the idea of getting into this rather too-cool gaming system, you can see the game in action and then pick up some stuff at a discount from the Grim Tree Games stand . You can also visit their online store and website before the show.
It's Back!!We are pleased to announce that WH40k will be back on song at Britcon for 2014 and, even better, we are sticking with the Britcon 40k ethos of aiming to do something just a little different to keep it fun for all our players. So, to keep things fresh and a bit different we are changing the style a bit for 2014.
We will not have Forge World units this time round, maybe in future.... Allies can be taken, but this does not bypass the duplication rules above. It is still ONLY ONE of each thing!!! For those of you that supported us last year we are back and aiming for much bigger and better things, and we thank you for your continued support. These are just the preliminary ideas and hope you like them. Geoff On behalf of the organising team at the BHGS we'd just like to thank everyone - players, traders, day visitors, umpires, list checkers, first aiders (yes!), terrain providers, camp followers and vaguely interested passers by who helped make this year's Britcon in Manchester what people seem to be telling us was something of a resounding success ! The results are now up on this site as we speak, and there is a whole bucketload of stuff on our Facebook Page from the show as well - you can also upload any pictures you may have taken to the Facebook site too. We'll be sending out a post-event email and survey once we catch our breath so you will have plenty of opportunities to give us your feedback and suggestions in the next few weeks, however if you attended and enjoyed it we'd really appreciate it if you can post some comments to that effect on whatever forums and discussion groups you are members of, as (hopefully positive!) word of mouth is the best publicity to help us continue to run and grow Britcon in future years. Also don't forget our two Doubles/Pairs Competition weekends being held later this year, for DBMM, FoGAM, FOW andFoGR. Bookings are open for all of these events and places are limited so make sure you stake your claim early! For those of you who need to plan ahead we will be running the BHGS Challenge on 11/12th April 2014, this time in Oxford, and Roll Call will return to Cranfield on 21/22nd June. Britcon 2014 will be held on the 8th, 9th and 10th of August, again in UMIST Manchester. Getting the booking system up and running for all three is on the BHGS "to-do list", but right now we're all off for a soak in (several separate) hot baths and what feels like a well deserved a rest.... ! This year sees the first Bolt Action tournament being held at Britcon, and as well as the event having the full support from Warlord Games, the lovely people at terrain-maker 4Ground have also agreed to provide us with £100-worth of buildings which will be included in some of our terrain setups for you to fight over, and - we believe as a first for any UK competition - these same buildings will also be offered as "spot-prizes" throughout the weekend. This means that if your men are brave enough to capture one of these buildings, you may also be lucky enough to take it home yourself at the end of the weekend! Thank you to all the competitors (and umpires, list checkers and table-shifters!) who helped make Roll Call 2013 such a great success - over 150 players including a record attendance in Warhammer Fantasy Battles meant a good time was had by all in Cranfield over the weekend of 22/23 July. We've posted all of the results we have on this site already. Our next event is the Big One - Britcon in Manchester and places in all our competitions are filling up fast. The Britcon Trade Show is also now sold out and we have details of all of our traders posted on this site already, as well as a page where you can reserve your free entry ticket to the show. Finally, don't forget our two Doubles/Pairs Competition weekends being held later this year, for DBMM, FoGAM, FOW and FoGR. Bookings are open for all of these events and places are limited so make sure you stake your claim early! Great Prizes announced for Britcon! This year as usual we will be offering the traditional mix of trophies and period specific prizes provided by some of our traders. In addition we are delighted that one of our Event Sponsors Osprey Publishing will be providing a fantastic selection of their wargaming titles which will form part of the prizes on offer. These include: 3 sets of 3 current Osprey Wargames Books (Dux Bellorum, A World Aflame and In Her Majesty's Name) 2 sets of the entire Field of Glory Napoleonic series of games (3 books in total) 2 sets of the entire Force on Force set (1 Hardback rules set plus 8 army lists) 2 sets of the entire Field of Glory Renaissance set Not bad huh? |
